Frequently Asked Questions
How does Zerorez carpet cleaning work? How is it different than other cleaners?
Zerorez cleaning services are based on our unique Zrā¢ Water technology and our patented cleaning wand.
Zrā¢ Water is created through an ionization process that enhances the cleaning capabilities of water, transforming it into a high-performance solution that we use to clean the surfaces in your home (or business). Think of it as a super magnet. It attracts and rinses off dirt, grime, and all kinds of unwelcome contaminates from your home.
This advanced solution allows us to thoroughly clean without the use of traditional, harsh cleaning chemicals. It's not only powerful, it's also safe for people, pets, and the planet. This means that your carpet or any surface we clean stays cleaner, longer.
How long does Zerorez take to clean?
The speed at which we clean your home will depend on the layout of your room(s), the quality of your carpets (number of stains, pre-treatments required, etc will take more time), the accessibility of the surfaces being cleaned within your home, and the number of different surfaces being cleaned.
Properly prepping your home ahead of our visit ensures we can get to work quickly and work efficiently.
How much does Zerorez cost?
Zerorez frequently offers promo codes and discounts, which are set locally, so be sure to contact your local Zerorez to learn more about any sales going on.
Do you tip Zerorez carpet cleaners?
You are not required to tip your Zerorez technician, and it is not automatically added to your Zerorez cost. However, if you are pleased with the hard work, professionalism, and results your tech provided, he or she gladly welcomes any tips and positive reviews. In most locations, a tip prompt is shown to you during the final invoicing.
Can you walk on carpet after cleaning it?
Yes! It is completely safe to walk on your newly cleaned carpet as long as you're comfortable with the cleanliness of your feet or shoes.
Feel free to ask your service technician for a complimentary pair of shoe coverings.
What should I do before my Zerorez appointment?
A few days before your appointment, we will send you an email with some helpful tips about your upcoming cleaning experience. Before we arrive for your appointment please:
- Move fragile or breakable items to a safe place.
- Vacuum to remove pet hair and larger particles of soil or food.
- Ensure areas to be cleaned are free from toys, books, and other items.
- Let us know about any special areas of concerns, like stains or pet urine.
- Move furniture and put dining chairs up on tabletops or otherwise out of the way.
Does Zerorez move furniture?
Your technician will do a great job cleaning up to and around any furniture pieces that have not been moved. Thankfully, the flooring under furniture doesn't usually collect as much dirt or stains.
How long will it take for my carpets to dry with Zerorez?
At Zerorez, we add steps to our cleaning process that most carpet cleaners do not include, which helps to reduce the dry time. By pretreating and preparing the carpet fibers for cleaning, we reduce the amount of water it takes to completely rinse the carpet clean.
We also take extra vacuum strokes to remove as much excess moisture as possible and we sometimes set up specially designed fans (air movers) as we clean in order to increase airflow and reduce the dry time.
Our typical dry time is between four to eight hours, but this can be affected by the temperature and humidity inside the home.
Do I have to be at home for the cleaning appointment?
While we prefer that you or someone of accountable age be home during your appointment, it is not required. We do appreciate having someone there to confirm the areas that will be cleaned, discuss options and address any concerns we may encounter during the service. All Zerorez Technicians are employees, not sub-contractors, and we are fully insured.
We normally collect payment when we have completed the work, so if you are not going to be home, please make arrangements with our customer service representatives so we can gain access to the property (keys, codes), provide instructions on how to lock up when we are done, and receive payment.
What is Zerorez's cancellation policy and is there a cancellation fee if I have to cancel my appointment?
No, not usually, especially if you cancel more than 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time. We understand life is busy and unexpected things can change your schedule. If you need to reschedule, please call our customer service representatives who can help you select a better time. We appreciate you giving us as much notice as possible (preferably a few days) if you need to cancel so we can adjust our schedule.
If you do need to cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time, a flat fee or percentage of your booking estimate may be charged, but it can be applied as a credit toward services if you rebook within 7 business days.

Does Zerorez have a guarantee? What does it cover?
Is a fabric protector applied to the carpet?
The application of fabric protector is an additional service we offer. Most carpet manufacturers apply a topical fabric protector to their carpets during manufacturing. Over time, this added layer of protection can be worn down or removed by harsh cleaning chemicals.
Your carpet's ability to resist soiling and staining is thus reduced over time, allowing spots and spills to become stains. Zerorez uses the industry's best protectant that can be applied to the carpet after cleaning. Please check with your local franchise for a quote to apply fabric protector to your carpet and/or upholstery.
How do you treat pet stains? Is there an extra charge for these treatments?
Zerorez understands that pet accidents happen, causing odor and discoloration in your floor coverings. If not properly treated, biological matter such as urine can create a breeding ground for bacteria and a distinctly unhealthy environment.
Most of our pet treatments are provided at an additional cost and the technician will discuss options before beginning treatment. Any service recommended by a technician is optional. Please note that if you decline a pet treatment, it does void our 30-day Gotta Love It GuaranteeĀ® for that area of your home.
If there is concern over a biological issue, we will inspect the carpet often with a special UV light that helps illuminate contaminants in the carpet. Our trained cleaning technicians will review the condition of the carpet, the severity of the biological contamination, and what the options are available to treat the spots.
Our technicians will be able to discuss all the options, costs and solutions with you when they inspect your home and review the existing conditions.
Does Zerorez clean other things besides carpets?
Yes! Because Zerorez's Zr Water® technology works incredibly well on all surfaces, we are proud to offer other cleaning services.
Most franchises offer our core services, which include carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, fabric protection, and tile and grout cleaning.
Each franchise determines what services they want to offer, so please check with your local Zerorez team to see if they offer other services such as hardwood floor cleaning, leather cleaning, air duct cleaning, and area rug cleaning.
How does Zerorez clean area rugs? Can you clean them in the home or do you take them off-site?
We can clean some types of area rugs in your home, as long as there are no biological issues in the rug (such as urine, blood, feces or vomit) and there is an appropriate surface to clean them on. Some locations offer rug bath cleaning where they can take your rug to their shop and do a much more thorough and detailed cleaning of your area rugs, which takes additional time, but is often well worth it.
Please check with your local franchise to see what level of rug cleaning they offer. They will also be very happy to provide a quote for your area rug cleaning needs.
Does Zerorez clean air ducts? If so, what is the cost?
How often should I get my carpet cleaned?
How often your home or office carpets need cleaning is a personal thing. Each property is different and aspects such as the frequency of use, number of people in the property, pets, outdoor environment, etc. all contribute to the cleaning cycle. Most carpet manufacturers require you to have your carpets cleaned with hot water extraction (HWE) every 12 to 18 months in order to maintain their warranty.
Zerorez's cleaning process goes above and beyond normal HWE, so using Zerorez will help you maintain your carpet's warranty. Cleaning more frequently will extend the life of your carpet.
What can you do about residue left behind by DIY spotting chemicals or other cleaning companies?
Harmful soaps and detergents left behind by DIY spotting chemicals or improper cleaning techniques can create a sticky mess. Soaps and detergents are engineered to attract dust and dirt and, if left in your carpet, they will continue to attract dust and dirt making your carpet dirty again quickly. If you do not use Zerorez, your next carpet cleaner will most likely add a new layer of sticky soaps and detergents to your carpet, thereby compounding the problem.
What you need is to neutralize and remove the sticky residue that has been left behind.
Zerorez's carpet pre-conditioner is engineered without soaps and detergents, so we do not add to the problem. By pretreating and agitating the carpet, we start to break down the residues in your carpet. Then, by thoroughly rinsing the carpet with our patented cleaning process, we are able to flush out a lot of the existing soils and residue.
Depending on the level of residue that has bonded to your carpet fibers, we may not be able to break it all down the first time we clean.
