Pet Treatment 101: Tackle Messes Head On
Animals are an important part of any household. For some, pets provide a sense of comfort and relaxation, helping you wind down after a busy day. For others, pets are adventure buddies: joining you on car rides and always up for new experiences. And while pets are unique to each owner, all pets are capable of leaving behind carpet discoloration and offensive odors. That's where Zerorez comes in!
Animal Waste:
These accidents can cause foul odors and leave behind visible stains. If you're presented with an accident like this, remove all large surrounding pieces of waste. This limits the spread of harmful bacteria and reduces the intensity of odors. After following these initial steps, let the stain sit.
The next day, ensure no additional pieces of waste are present in your carpeting. Since the stain has had time to dry overnight, this process should be relatively easy. Simply scrape up any remaining or tacked on remnants and dispose of in a waste container outside your home.
For additional stain treatment, consider a solution of 2-3 drops Dawn dishwashing soap, 3 oz. of white vinegar, and 16 oz. of water. This will help continue to eliminate the initial stain and reduce any lingering odors.
Urine Stains:
It's important to act fast when presented with a urine stain. If left untreated, these accidents can result in the permanent discoloration of your carpet fibers or seep below the surface and damage your carpets pad and backing. This often requires homeowners to replace their carpeting altogether.
If a urine stain does occur, blot immediately with a microfiber cloth and ensure you don't scrub or apply excessive pressure. This not only helps protect your carpet fibers but prevents the further spread of urine down into your carpet backing.
For additional stain treatment, consider a solution of one part vinegar and one part water in a spray bottle. Spray the affected area and let sit for ten minutes. Then apply a layer of baking soda to help neutralize or further eliminate the odor.
