July is National Carpet Cleaning Month! Huzzah!
Written by: Leah Roberts
That's right- those of us here at Zerorez® are celebrating this joyous, empowering holiday, just for you- National Carpet Cleaning Month! It's actually quite spectacular, so stop rolling your eyes over there, Susan. That's right- we saw thatā¦
Now you are probably wondering, "Why July?". Well, not only is it one of the most popular months out of the year for people to choose a professional carpet cleaning. But we chose this month so that we could bring awareness to the importance of keeping clean carpets! In order to have a healthy home, you have to have healthy carpets!
Why National Carpet Cleaning Month?
Think of your carpets, just like you think of the air filters in your house. You know when that sweltering heat of summer time rolls into Phoenix, and it seems like no matter how cool you bring the temperature to in your house, it doesn't seem to cool down (and yet your electric bill is still going up?).
You're wondering why your air conditioner is being so pitiful? Well, most likely it is your air filter's fault! It's probably overflowing with thick gray fluff; it's covering that filter just like the lint in your dryer's lint trap. All that dirt, dust, hair, pet dander, dead skin, soil, bacteria, and overall grime, is collected there over the course of a year. Therefore- National Carpet Cleaning Month!
Your carpet is just like that air filter. Think of it as a filter for your floor- just hanging out there like a lint trap, collecting all that dust and dirt brought in. Now obviously, it is not as easy to clean the "filter" of your carpets, as it is the filter for your air. You can't simply pinch the fluff between your fingers and peel it off the filter (or just throw it away and get a new one like you would for an air filter). Hmm, what to do, what to doā¦?
What Happens If You Don't Clean The Carpet "Filter"
So what would happen if we never cleaned the air filter, or the carpet acting as a filter? Or what if you don't have carpeting in your house at all? All the dirt, dust, soilā¦ where would it all go?
Well, first of all, it isn't especially healthy. All those dinky dirt/dust particles will simply float around in the air now, all around you, allowing you to breath it all in. Not to mention, the settling and caking onto the surfaces of your home- which, then again, stirs up when you touch or pass these surfaces. Then it simply flies around your house again, and you are still breathing it in.
Say Susan's had a rough day at work. Susan comes home, slips out her dear ol' penny loafers, and trudges upstairs, longing to feel her aching body rest on that gloriously comfortable bed. But because, either Susan hasn't cleaned her filters in a decade, or she doesn't have carpet in her house to act as a filter- she flops onto that plushy, dusty ol' bed and sends all that invisible dust, hair, dirt, that was married to her bed, flying around in the room!
I believe I can FFLLLLYYYY!
Overtime, or even immediately if you were to be so unfortunate, all these free-flying particles can cause allergies, sneezing, coughing, itchy or watery eyes, or a runny nose. I mean really, come on now Susan. Get it together. Sheeshā¦
So What Can I Do About It?
Well this is why we created this delightful holiday of National Carpet Cleaning Month- so you are made aware of these potential health problems! So what can you do about it you ask? Well we can't help you with your air filter (but that one seems an obvious fix- buy a new one!!), but we do have your carpet cleaning solution!
Typically, you want to have your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year- hence July being National Carpet Cleaning month. It's our whimsical way of reminding you to stop clogging your carpet with old dust and dirt from the passing year. Let it breath, and survive to live another year, collecting more dust and dirt! it is a never ending, vicious circle of lifeā¦
What About Vacuuming Carpets?
Sure, vacuuming throughout the course of the year is a great way to upkeep. But it is important to remember these two facts-
- Vacuuming doesn't collect ALL those evil toxins down there in your carpet. It barely scratches the surface.
- And two! Most vacuums collect 75% of the dust in the bag or the canister. But what do you think that filter is doing in the back? Yeah, sure it's for air flow, blah blah blah. But REALLY, if you turn off al the lights in the room while you vacuum, and hold a bright light to that back vacuum filter? You will see that other 25% of dust particles you are vacuuming, fly right out the other end and BACK into your carpetā¦
