Founded in 1955, Houston Grand Opera is a place to come and enjoy operatic art. Over the years, Houston Grand Opera has received many awards for their grand performances. The Houston Grand Opera is the only company in the world to win all three Emmy, Grammy, and Tony awards. Emmy Awards were received in 1987, 1998, and 2017, Grammy Awards were received in 1976 and 1987, a Tony Award was received in 1976, and a Grand Prix du Disques was received in 1976.

This historic district of Houston Texas is full of impressive buildings that had been constructed sometime between 1870 and 1900. While exploring this historic district you will find 20th-century bungalows, historic schools, cornerstones, grand historic homes railroads, shipping ports, and more. Main Street Market Square is the only commercial historic district in Houston Texas. Half of the buildings in this area were built between the years 1858 and 1900. There is always something new to learn about the history of Houston when you do a bit of looking around in the Historic District.
One of the most interesting places near the Houston Historic District is the Downtown Houston Tunnel System. Below the bustling city of Houston Texas, you will find seven miles of tunnels filled with over 150 businesses, restaurants, shops, salons, doctor's practices and more.
The Houston Theater District
The Theater District of Houston Texas consists of 17 blocks right in Downtown Houston. Here you will find Bayou Place entertainment complex, Alley Theatre, Jones Hall, Wortham Arts, and AMC Houston 8, restaurants, movie theaters, plazas, and parks. At these locations there are always musicals, operas, stand-up comedians, visits from best-selling children's book authors, performances from orchestras, bands, musicians, events for kids, dance concerts, and many more events are available to attend daily.
Nearby Houston's theater district you will also find many things to do with the family such as the Downtown Aquarium, Houston Zoo, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Museum of Natural Science, and Jones Plaza.
