How to Protect Your Carpets from Glue, Glitter, and Other School Supplies
As summer comes to an end, it's time to consider your carpet. Between messy school supplies and dirty sneakers, your carpets are in for new surprises. Here's what Zerorez®predicts for this school year:
Messy Markers
The school year calls for fun, new art projects, and we know how exciting that can be! So exciting, in fact, that sometimes little hands fly right off the page and onto your floors. Your kids' masterpiece can quickly turn into a headache and lots of scrubbing. Luckily, most markers are washable, which means using a little bit of warm water and a rag can help to lift a marker stain right out!
Gobs of Glitter
Glitter: the gift that keeps on giving. Using glitter means finding glitter in unusual places for the next several months. If your child has a school assignment involving glitter, be sure to put some trash bags down to protect your floors and other surfaces from a sparkle-invasion. If some glitter finds its way onto your floor, your best option is to clean your vacuum filter to optimize its effectiveness.
Glue Galore
It's no secret that glue is one of the most entertaining supplies around. Kids and adults love to play with glue! But that doesn't mean that it won't find its way into your carpet. Keep your carpet clean by limiting the spaces where glue can be used. Using glue on hard surfaces makes it easier to clean up. Glue sticks tend to be more controlled or less messy than glue bottles. If you do end up with glue in your carpet, don't cut it out! People often damage their carpets by trying to cut portions of it to disguise whatever spill or stain they have. Try a warm washcloth to loosen the glue, and if that doesn't work, call your local Zerorez! We are happy to advise you, and come clean up the mess!
Smelly Sneakers
After a long day of play at school, your kids will likely be tracking in some dirt to your home. Keeping up with vacuuming can help prevent dirt from settling in and staining your carpets! Having a no-shoe policy when walking in the door can also help as a preventative measure.
